Blog-April 2024

Botanical Short Stories: A Collection of Contemporary Writing about Plants and Flowers is published and available from all good bookshops and online retailers. We’ve been lucky enough to receive some lovely endorsements, including this one from Leif Bersweden, botanist and author of Where the Wildflowers Grow

“A lovely collection of short stories with plants front and centre. If you’re a gardener or plant lover, then this is a book for you.”

Another highlight was the book review by Becky Tipper in the spring 2024 issue of Hortus, a gardening periodical considered by the Daily Telegraph to ‘offer the finest garden writing in the English language.’ Having read the journal, I could not agree more.

Book Launch

Our book launch will take place on 2 May Book Launch: 6pm at The Falmouth Bookseller in Church St, Falmouth. This free event is part of the inaugural Wayward Book Festival. I’m delighted to say that Sarah and I will be joined by some of the contributors. All welcome.

Please keep an eye out as details of further events will be available soon.

Twelve Stories and Upcoming Publications

In other news, Twelve Stories for Twelve Sections was launched in style at Hall for Cornwall on 23 March. This wonderful, well-attended event managed the impressive feat of gathering all but one of the contributors in one place at one time. The anthology includes my story ‘Perran in the Sands’ about Cornwall’s beloved St Piran whose oratory lies in sand dunes on the north coast. You can read more about this amazing site in a previous post A Saint in the Sands

After having very few new short stories published over the last five years, I’m also delighted to have a new story accepted for publication by The Sunlight Press. Another story will feature in the Women Speak Volumes publication due out in June. Further happy news is that I’ll be speaking to creative students at Falmouth University about my story ‘A Bird So Rare’ in mid-April.

That is all the excitement for now. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read this post. I’ll be sharing further news soon.
